We build the foundations,
one activity at a time.

Our 2022.

This impact report describes how Watermelon pursues its common benefit: what we did in 2022, with what measurable results, and what goals we set for the year ahead.

Published pursuant to Law 208/2015, paragraphs 376-384.

Why we are
a Benefit Corporation.

At Watermelon we all work towards one important goal: building a better world. We hold that change must start with the individual, and we are committed to sharing with our suppliers, clients, community and friends the importance of working responsibly, sustainably and transparently towards people and the environment.

Gender equality.

60% of Watermelon is owned by a woman, who serves as director and manages its financial and human resources.

Renewable energy.

Photovoltaic system

In 2019 we installed a photovoltaic system on the roof of our Morbegno premises; since then and up to December 2022 we have produced 29.0 MWh.

Equipment

We use low-energy computers and equipment and avoid incandescent bulbs both in the office and in our video productions.

Solar thermal and district heating

We have solar thermal panels for heating water, which we integrate with district heating.

Reduce, reuse, recycle.

Reuse

We support initiatives against the use of plastic bottles and disposable containers, with a metal bottle for every employee and collaborator. We bought a water purifier and carbonator for the office.

Waste reduction

We print nothing but the strictly necessary, on set too. The only printer in the company is an EcoTank.

Recycling

We sort our waste and turn the organic part into compost.

Watermelon for good.

We support foundations and charitable associations by developing projects to spread culture and the wellbeing of the community. We have produced campaigns for UNHCR, AIST (Italian Tourette Syndrome Association), Pink is Good by Fondazione Veronesi, HSA Handicapped Scuba Association.

Watermelon x Pink Parade Run

On Sunday 16 October 2022 we ran for research and prevention in support of Fondazione Umberto Veronesi in the Pink Parade Run in its distributed format. Running with us were influencers and friends from Turin, Ravenna, Magenta, Bergamo, Milan, Brescia, Macerata, Rome, Barcelona, London and Las Cruces (USA).

We then created a campaign on our social channels to help spread the message of prevention and support in the fight against cancer.

The social campaign made for the initiative.

Local community.

Community

The choice to be based in Valtellina has always been founded on the ability to maintain a good quality of life for partners and employees.

Storico Ribelle

In December 2021 we bought a wheel of Storico Ribelle, in support of the work of the local herders who make this alpine cheese by traditional methods. In May 2022 we organised the decoration of the wheel, followed by lunch at the dairy.

Animation Kids Camp

In summer 2022 we took part as illustrators and animators in the animation camp for children aged 6 to 12 organised by Webtek. A cartoon was made that the 17 participating children conceived, wrote, drew and voiced.

Welfare.

Ensuring a comfortable working environment has always been important to us.

We provide online courses for training and specialisation, which can be taken during working hours.

We encourage employees and collaborators to play sport through flexible working hours, and to use a bicycle to reach the office.

Impact
assessment.

Our commitment is measured with the B Impact Assessment, the international standard that assesses a company's overall impact on governance, workers, community, environment and customers.

Future goals.

Every year we renew our commitment to improving what we do, setting concrete goals in line with the principles of sustainability and responsibility that guide our work, also with reference to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

We will buy a wheel of Storico Ribelle cheese produced in summer 2023.

We will organise a trail clean-up day in an area near the office, chosen closer to the date based on the amount of waste.

For the third year running we will renew our participation in the Pink Run, in support of research and of spreading the importance of prevention.
