We become
a Benefit Corporation.
Our 2021.
This impact report describes how Watermelon pursues its common benefit: what we did in 2021, with what measurable results, and what goals we set for the year ahead.
Published pursuant to Law 208/2015, paragraphs 376-384.
Why we became
a Benefit Corporation.
At Watermelon we all work towards one important goal: building a better world. We hold that change must start with the individual, and we are committed to sharing with our suppliers, clients, community and friends the importance of working responsibly, sustainably and transparently towards people and the environment.
Gender equality.
60% of Watermelon is owned by a woman, who serves as director and manages its financial and human resources.
Renewable energy.
Photovoltaic system
Thanks to the system installed in 2019 on the roof of our premises, over the last three years we have produced 21.4 MWh.
CO₂ avoided on the product since 2019, ISPRA factor 0.213 kg/kWh (2025).
Equipment
We use low-energy computers and equipment and avoid incandescent bulbs both in the office and in our video productions.
Solar thermal and district heating
We have solar thermal panels for heating water, which we integrate with district heating.
Reduce, reuse, recycle.
Reuse
We support initiatives against the use of plastic bottles and disposable containers, with a metal bottle for every employee and collaborator. We use only washable plates and glasses.
Waste reduction
We print nothing but the strictly necessary, on set too. The only printer in the company is an EcoTank.
Recycling
We sort our waste and turn the organic part into compost for our vegetable garden.
Watermelon for good.
We support foundations and charitable associations by developing projects to spread culture and the wellbeing of the community. We have produced campaigns for UNHCR, AIST (Italian Tourette Syndrome Association), Pink is Good by Fondazione Veronesi, HSA Handicapped Scuba Association.
In October 2021 we took part in the Pink Run promoted by Fondazione Veronesi, with a financial contribution.
Welfare.
We provide employees with online courses on wellbeing, general culture and learning through the Masterclass platform, which can be taken during working hours.
We encourage employees and collaborators to play sport through flexible working hours, and to use a bicycle to reach the office.
Future goals.
Every year we renew our commitment to improving what we do, setting concrete goals in line with the principles of sustainability and responsibility that guide our work, also with reference to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
Having made the transformation on 23 December 2021, we were able to analyse our sustainable development goals for the common good and outline the proposals for 2022.
Thinking about the future of our planet can only be a priority. We are attentive to waste reduction and recycling, turning the organic part into compost for our vegetable garden. We will continue to use washable plates and glasses and to print only when strictly necessary. Our photovoltaic system continues to provide part of the energy we consume. In 2022 a water purifier and carbonator was bought for the office.
Flexible hours let employees make use of online courses on wellbeing, general culture and learning, as well as exercise during flexible lunch breaks. Team-building activities are planned for 2022.
Supporting the territory where you live and work is a way to increase wellbeing. In December 2021 we bought a wheel of Storico Ribelle to support the work of local herders. In 2022 we will organise an activity with employees to decorate the wheel.
We will continue to support associations and non-profit organisations. In 2022 we plan to take part again in the Pink Run, involving employees and collaborators, promoting awareness of women's cancers.
